Young Carers Services
Counselling
Young carers suffer
with anxiety
Young carers have a
mental health condition
Before counselling can begin, we require parental or guardian consent, as sessions involve a young person under the age of consent. Once this is in place, we work with the young carer’s school to arrange a safe, private space for sessions.
Each session is reviewed regularly with the young carer to ensure it’s meeting their needs, and to determine if additional sessions beyond the initial six are required. A variety of resources are used to help young carers explore their feelings and, where appropriate, share their story.
While sessions are confidential, there are limits to this when working with young people – especially if safeguarding concerns arise. These boundaries are clearly explained and discussed with the young carer. Our counsellor, Linda, receives monthly clinical supervision in line with BACP ethical guidelines, ensuring best practice at all times.

Referrals are managed through our Senior Youth Workers, who work closely with Linda on a case-by-case basis. We also encourage families to reach out with any concerns or changes in circumstances – ensuring our support stays responsive and effective.
