Criteria

To access our support the young person needs to be:

  • Aged 8 to 17 years old and caring or helping to care for a family member(s). This can involve caring for a parent and/or a sibling impacted by a disability, mental health issues or addiction.
  • Impacted by their caring responsibilities
  • Live or attend school/college within either South Oxfordshire or Oxford City Districts

Young carers with additional needs can be referred however, Be Free YC does not have the capacity or training to provide one-to-one support on trips and activities. If a young carer has difficulties following instructions, regulating emotions, or engaging with others, it may not be appropriate for them to attend trips and activities for their own safety and/or the safety of others around them.

We encourage you to contact our Young Carer Youth Workers prior to referring a young carer with additional needs to discuss if we are able to support them.

Making a Referral

Due to staff recruitment, we are currently only taking referral requests from South Oxfordshire and Oxford City. Once the position is filled, we will reopen referrals for The Vale of White Horse.

Due to the demand for our services, we have temporarily paused referrals from South Oxfordshire until we have caught up on the backlog – we envision opening this up after Easter.

Please fill in the form below and email it to – referral@befreeyc.org.uk

IMPORTANT – Due to circumstances beyond our control, we have made the difficult decision to not take referrals from Social Services. We will continue to support Young Carers ALREADY REGISTERED with us who were previously referred by Social Services, but are unable to continue providing help for further referrals until future notice.
